Warm White Branch-Wrapped Tree Lighting in Greenwich
The project
For this residential project in Greenwich, Connecticut, we used warm white mini lights to transform a mature front-yard tree into the central feature of the property. The installation begins with a dense wrap around the trunk and continues outward across the main branches, preserving the tree’s natural structure while creating a bright architectural silhouette. Smaller upper branches were intentionally left unlit, keeping the design focused on the strongest limbs and preventing the display from appearing overcrowded. The warm white color complements the home’s light exterior and creates a clean, elegant contrast against the nighttime landscape. Rather than adding lighting across the roofline or surrounding shrubs, the design remains centered on a single landscape feature.
The challenge
The tree is a large deciduous specimen with a thick trunk that splits into several heavy limbs, some reaching out almost horizontally over the lawn. It stands on its own in front of the house, so it is seen from the drive and the street with nothing around it to hide an uneven wrap.
How we lit it
We wrapped the trunk tightly from the ground to the first split, then followed each main limb outward, keeping the wraps close together so every limb reads as a solid line of light. The finer upper branches stay dark, which lets the tree keep its natural spread instead of turning into a glowing mass. Warm white matches the light exterior of the house behind it, and nothing else on the property was lit.
The result
At night the tree stands as a bright shape on the front lawn, its limbs drawing wide lines against the dark sky. The house stays in the background, so the tree is the first thing seen from the drive.
