Multicolor Roofline, Ridge, and Tree Lighting in Brookfield
The project
For this residential project in Brookfield, Connecticut, we designed a multicolor display that follows the home’s long roofline, front-facing gables, and upper ridges. A repeating pattern of red, green, blue, and amber C9 bulbs creates continuity across the main residence and covered porch. The mature tree in the front yard is wrapped with matching multicolor mini lights, connecting the landscaping with the architectural lighting. The same multicolor lighting runs across the roof ridges, giving the home greater definition from the street.
The challenge
The ranch is long and low, with a deep covered porch at one end, a gable end at the other and a roof that runs nearly the full length of the house. On a single-story home the roof is the whole outline, so every line has to stay even from end to end, including the porch that sits under its own extended eave.
How we lit it
We ran multicolor C9 bulbs along the full front eave, carried them over the porch roof, and took the same line up both rakes of the gable end. A second run follows the roof ridge, so the house is outlined at the top as well as at the eave, and the long roof reads as a solid shape instead of a single thin line.
The colors alternate bulb by bulb on every run, so no stretch of the roof reads as a single color. In the front yard, the mature tree carries multicolor string lights, and multicolor C9 bulbs on stakes circle its base, repeating the roof palette at ground level.
The result
From the lawn the house reads as a clear double line of color, eave and ridge, with the gable end closing the outline. Seen from the porch side, the bulbs frame the covered entry without lighting the porch itself.
